Zgodnie z rozporządzeniem Rady Ministrów z 2023 roku, Główny Instytut Górnictwa – Państwowy Instytut Badawczy (GIG-PIB) realizuje kompleksowy monitoring tych zagrożeń na terenach górniczych i pogórniczych Górnośląskiego Zagłębia Węglowego. Działania te obejmują sześć głównych zadań, spośród których trzecie dotyczy monitorowania deformacji powierzchni, a szóste obejmuje integrację wyników w formie zintegrowanych map zagrożeń geodynamicznych i hydrogeologicznych.
Monitoring deformation in mining and post-mining areas using satellite and geomatics techniques
Mining and post-mining areas are exposed to significant geodynamic and hydrogeological hazards, which can result in surface deformations, infrastructure damage, and changes in water balance. Early identification and monitoring of these processes are essential for ensuring public safety and maintaining the stability of buildings and urbanized areas. In accordance with the 2023 regulation of the Council of Ministers, the Central Mining Institute – National Research Institute (GIG-PIB) conducts comprehensive hazard monitoring in the mining and post-mining areas of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. These efforts include six key tasks. Third of which focus on monitoring surface deformations, while the sixth involves integrating the results into geodynamic and hydrogeological hazard maps. This article discusses the methodology for implementing these two critical tasks. The applied techniques include satellite and geomatic methods, such as Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR), GHSS systems, and the proprietary Linear Dependence (LD) method, which enhances the detection of rapidly occurring displacements. These activities are supported by a dedicated geoportal, enabling real-time analysis and visualization of hazards. The comprehensive nature of these efforts forms the foundation for effective risk management in areas affected by mining activites.
